Senior Associate/ Assistant Controller, Fund Accounting

Pennybacker Capital is seeking a Senior Associate/ AssistantController, Fund Accounting to join its dynamic, entrepreneurial team located in Austin, Texas. Pennybacker Capital is a rapidly growing real estate private equity firm that invests in a variety of asset types in select growth markets of the United States. Pennybacker’s stellar reputation of performance and integrity has produced a stable investor base with major institutional investors and family offices. We are looking for a highly motivated, qualified professional with a proven track record of achievement and teamwork to join our Finance, Accounting and Investor Reporting team. The ideal candidate will share Pennybacker’s philosophy of integrity, transparency and honesty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for day-to-day activities related to the fund accounting, reporting and operating activities of various real estate funds, ensuring financial information is maintained in accordance with GAAP and the company’s policies and procedures
  • Liaison with third party fund administrators on preparation of capital calls, distributions, quarterly financial statements, line of credit activity, fund waterfalls, management fee calculations and ad hoc investor requests
  • Manage all fund-level operating activities including investment funding, cash transactions, fund-level cash needs, and line of credit administration/debt compliance
  • Provide detailed review of quarterly fund workpapers, GAAP financial statements and report footnotes, and partner capital account statements prepared by the fund administrator
  • Prepare and review asset and fund-level performance metrics
  • Coordinate with outside national CPA firm on annual audit and tax return preparation of the fund
  • Participate in quarterly valuation committee meetings
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Managing Director, Head of Accounting

QUALIFICATIONS—REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in accounting required
  • Strong technical skills in accounting and finance with advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word. CPA or CPA candidate required
  • 4+ years of accounting experience in public accounting, commercial real estate or other investment/finance related area; exposure to private equity, partnership accounting and real estate a plus
  • Confident under pressure and comfortable meeting deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities
  • Team player who is comfortable accepting and providing constructive feedback
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
